Cozy mahjong solitaire, fair underneath

Yila Mahjong is a cozy mahjong-solitaire game that plays in your web browser. Every board can be cleared, and a stuck board gets a free rescue instead of a game over.

No account and no sign-in. The web build shows no ads of any kind.

What does fair underneath mean?

It means four rules the game keeps on every board, built into its code rather than left to luck.

  • Every board can be cleared

Each board is dealt solvable by construction: the game builds it backwards from a full clear, then a separate solver re-checks it before it is used.

  • A stuck board is rescued for free

If tiles are left and no move is possible, the game rewinds past positions no shuffle could save, then reshuffles. A rescue is never tied to an ad.

  • A full tray is never a game over

In tray mode, if the tray fills with 4 tiles that do not match, you get a free shuffle and carry on.

  • Your score never resets

Your lifetime score is banked when you win and never resets. Badges are permanent and never taken away.

Checked, not just claimed. On 2026-10-08 the game's own self-test cleared these boards with deliberately imperfect moves and confirmed every stuck state was rescued.

1,200classic boards across 6 layouts

What are the two ways to play?

Tray mode is on by default, and classic tap-two is one switch away in Settings. Both modes share the same tile rules.

Tray mode in Yila Mahjong: an empty wooden tray after a match, with a x3 combo meter beneath it
Tray mode, mid-combo, with the draining timer bar.

Tray mode: collect pairs in a 4-slot tray

Tap a free tile and it flies into the wooden tray at the top. Two of the same tile clear automatically, even if they sat far apart on the board. Collect again within 9 seconds to keep a combo going.

Classic mode in Yila Mahjong: a stacked board on green felt with one free tile selected by a green glow
Classic mode, one free tile selected.

Classic mode: tap two matching tiles

Tap two matching free tiles to clear them. The daily challenge always plays this way, because the leaderboard checks runs by replaying classic moves.

Does it play sideways?

Yes. A level started on a sideways screen spreads the same stack sideways so tiles stay big, and Hint, Shuffle and Undo move to a rail on the right. The deal is made on that shape, so it can still be cleared.

What does the promise look like in numbers?

The ad and coin rules are hard numbers in the game's config files, and the code checks them before any ad slot.

1per 4 levelsForced ads, at most
Level 4The first level an ad slot is allowed
Opt-inReward ads, only when you choose
20coinsFor every level you clear
10coinsPer star, 1 to 3 stars a board

Status today: no ad network is connected, so the web build shows no ads at all. The Shop's "Remove ads forever" switch turns ads off right away, with no payment.

What else is there to enjoy?

A shared daily board, rewards you earn just by playing, and three tile-face styles to choose from.

  • The daily challenge board in Yila Mahjong, a single layer of tiles under a Daily label

A daily challenge that is verified

One secret board per UTC day, the same for everyone. The server replays every posted run and ranks only runs that really clear the board.

  • Earn by playing

A forgiving 7-day gift calendar, 16 permanent badges and a zen garden with 8 ornaments at fixed coin prices. No timers, no random pulls.

  • The game's Theme screen offering the Classic Brush and Dynasty tile faces

    Three tile sets

Classic Brush, Dynasty and Heritage are all free to switch, across 42 faces including Flowers and Seasons.
