Proper landscape play

The boosters move to a side rail and boards spread sideways so tiles stay big.

Yila Mahjong learned to play sideways on 17 July 2026. When you hold your phone sideways or use a wide window, the Hint, Shuffle and Undo buttons move to a rail on the right-hand side.

Boards change shape too. A level that you start on a sideways screen spreads the same stack of tiles sideways, so the tiles stay big and easy to read instead of shrinking to fit.

The deal is made on that sideways shape, so it is still guaranteed to be clearable. If you rotate your screen in the middle of a level, the game does not re-deal. Your board stays as it is.

The game works in portrait and in landscape.

The game has changed since this note, so the best way to see it is to play a board.
